Language skills improves employability says new survey

A survey by specialist language recruiter, Euro London Appointments has revealed that language skills improve employability. Euro London surveyed 228 employers of whom 86% felt that languages were an important skill set.

Brussels wants graduates to apply: Employability in the EU

If you’re a British graduate with an interest in languages and policy, you should consider crossing the Channel in the direction of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. At a time when job opportunities for graduates appear bleak in the UK, the European Union wants new recruits to work in the “capital” of Europe where there are scores of other young people and plenty of cafes and restaurants, not to mention large quantities of good beer and chocolate as well as delicious mussels and snails.  Read the whole article in the Independent here

The Guardian 20th April – Faced with a competitive job market, undergraduates are teaching themselves the skills they need for work.  Tackling the UK’s awkward equation of more students but fewer jobs, students are helping each other to work on ways to boost their chances of finding employment.

Graduate Careers Group argues the case for Employability Skills

COLLEGE students should be taught interview techniques to bridge a “major gap” between academic qualifications and their ability to get a job.

It argues that students should have an in-depth knowledge of employability skills as well as their subject when they finish their course.

The recommendations were made by Graduate Careers Ireland, which represents careers officers in third-level institutions.
